Should companies still consider Academic Percentage in Recruitment of Professionals?

Yesterday I received a Call from a Job consultant for their Client (One of top 3 Automobile manufacturers in India).

After sharing company info nicely she started asking about myself.

The very first question she asked was : What was your Percentage Marks in 10th, 12th and after.

I was surprised that how companies still Treating %marks of 10th,12th as their basic evaluation criteria in todays time. Do you think that in todays time these % make any difference?

Are candidate having 75% of CBSE BOARD, 75% Of Rajasthan State Boards and 75% of Bihar Sate Board posses same Knowledge or Intelligence??
